Parenting Groups
As part of the philosophy of helping parents to have both the information and the support they need, Ryan Lowe runs a number of parenting groups. These groups are specific to various age groups and are run weekly for six weeks. The group then continues to meet as a peer support group on a once monthly basis.
Pre-Natal Parenting Group
The Group runs for six weeks, guided by Ryan Lowe. Each week focuses on a different aspect of childhood, parenting, child-development, attachment and bonding. The evening will usually start with information and discussion on the topics and will end with a space for parents to discuss their own feelings, thoughts, fears and ideas. The beginning of the evening aims to give parents a framework of information and understanding in which to develop their parenting ideas. The discussion portion of the evening aims to provide support to parents and allow a space for a depth of thinking about both the practical and the emotional journey toward parenthood.
Pre-School Parenting Group
This is a period in which many parenting issues come to the fore. The time of adjusting to parenting is over and parents begin to look at their parenting with some experience. Each week of the course will look at a different aspect of childhood, parenting, child-development, attachment and bonding. The evening will usually start with information and discussion on the topics and will end with a space for parents to discuss their own feelings, thoughts, fears and ideas. The beginning of the evening aims to give parents a framework of information and understanding in which to develop their parenting ideas. The discussion portion of the evening aims to provide emotional support to parents and allow a space for a depth of thinking about the emotional journey of parenthood.
Primary School Age Parenting Group
Each age of childhood presents its own challenges and areas is which difficulties arise. This age group looks at the emerging independence of the child, the difficulties with separation and reparation and the changing needs of an older child. Each evening looks at topics of particular relevance to this age group such as education, boundaries, communication, mediating sibling rivalry, etc.the support and advice of others. etc. This part of the evening aims to give the information that helps parents to understand the world from the child's point of view. There will also be space each evening for parents to think about the issues that particularly effect their family and to have the support and advice of others.
Teenage Parenting Group
The period of adolescence proves a particular challenge for both parents and teenagers. This group looks at particular issues of relevance for the adolescent including physical and hormonal changes, the movement towards independence and the challenges this places on parenting, he lose of control in parenting and the beginning of the importance of the peer group and lastly the ability to let go of our children and trust them to make their own way in the world.
